monarchknitting: Self Stripey Goodness...

Howdy there fellow knitters! This week I wanted to share with you some fun striping yarns we got in! We just love self patterning/self striping yarns...they practically do the work themselves. It’s also quite thrilling to watch the colors happen as they slide through you fingers. First...some show and tell! Remember that fab striping yarn I shared with you a while back, “Crazy Zauberball”?

Crazy Zauberball is a wonderful sock yarn with loooonnngg color stripes! It comes in so many bright happy colors. It’s not just for making socks either! Diane and I finally finished our “Wingspan” scarves....

gorgeous! Diane added little eyelets to her wingspan in every other “wedge” to add a little more interest. This pattern is quite fun to knit with all those short rows, and also quite simple. It looks great in any self striping yarns, particularly ones with long color changes like the Zauberball. Marks & Kattens “Fame Trend” is another great choice...

Oh boy! I am in love with that pink one! It reminds me of a tropical sunset ;)

Our new yarn of the week is also from Marks and Kattens. It’s also a self stripey! It’s called “Fame Trend Paljett”. This one is a fine weight wool, acrylic blend with the fun stripeyness of regular Fame Trend......but with little Payettes stuck right in there for a bit of bling!!

How fun is that!? I just love, love those colors! The purpley one spoke to me....and now that I’m done with Wingspan it’s time to cast on something else! Since I had so much fun with those short rows how bout another short row sripey shawl?! Time to cast on “Coquille”! This one is a little shawl knit side- to-side with yup, short rows! The pattern is free and comes from knitty.com you can find it by clicking the link here. I thought this pattern show off this new the self striping yarn quite nicely...and with the little payettes in there it will make it like a beautiful piece of jewelry! Next week I’ll share my progress ;) If you don’t want the bling, the regular Fame Trend would work out just beautifully.

Aside from all the fun stripeyness, we got in a little shipment from Alchemy Yarns. Some beautiful Silken Straw made it’s way in to our luxury department with some new hand-dyed colors....

Stunning! This “straw like” silk made up beauifully in that “Waterfall” scarf Joan made..

This yarn has wonderful soft, silky drape and would look beautiful as a scarf, shawl, or how bout a summer top? So many possibilities.... just use your imagination :)
